Clinics, workshops and information sessions that help you hone technique, improve performance, avoid injury and more

RACE-MANIA clinics, workshops and information sessions are designed to provide hands-on guidance and instruction with a favorable athlete to instructor ratio to maximize the learning opportunity for athletes. Class sizes are limited so registration is required for each clinic or workshop you wish to participate in.

The clinics and workshops below require a fee to attend, but you can SAVE $10 on any of them and unlock other great benefits when you first register for the RACE-MANIA All Day Pass. The All Day Pass is just $5 and 50% is donated to the American Cancer Society… plus it comes with other great benefits.

Admission to the clinics and workshops below is FREE if you register for the ALL DAY PASS. Because participation is limited, you must register for any of the sessions below to reserve your spot.

PLUS… there will be plenty to learn and see on the RACE-MANIA expo floor including free bike clinics from Landry Bicycles and Active Release Technique (ART), Graston, cupping and acupuncture treatments plus deep tissue massage from the Wellness in Motion booth.


SwimSmooth Swim Clinic

This is a 3-hour SwimSmooth clinic led by certified SwimSmooth coach Peter Russo that includes swimming in the BU Fit Rec pool (with video taping of your stroke), classroom-based instruction and additional drill time in the pool. This clinic is ideal for swimmers of all levels including triathletes and swimmers who race freestyle in the open water or pool. Swim Smooth is the world’s leading swimming coaching company, offering swimmers of all levels practical straightforward steps help you improve your swimming.

Advanced Freestyle: Maximizing the Speed Equation

This pool-based clinic is geared toward average to above average swimmers who are looking to get faster in the pool and in open water. This clinic will be led by Sue Sotir, a member of the coaching staff at Breakthrough Performance Coaching (BPC), who will evaluate the swim stroke of each clinic participant and then identify technique refinements designed to help you get more out of each stroke your take.

Price: $45; Duration: 90 minutes; Times offered: 8:00am-9:30am, 10:30am-12:00pm and 2:00pm-3:30pm.

How to Prepare for your First (or Next) Triathlon: A Guide for Women (with Meredith Atwood)

A step-by-step interactive seminar for how to get to the finish line of your first (or next) triathlon. From goal setting to training to race day, this fun and hilarious presentation by Meredith Atwood (“Swim Bike Mom”) will have you laughing and excited for your season AND your finish line.

Overcoming Your Fear of Swimming 

Everyone has fear about something but when your fear keeps you from enjoying everything you’re working to achieve, it’s time to confront that fear. Learn how to recognize and address fears you have about pool or open water swimming and how to work past the fear to free yourself and excel in the water.  In this 50 minute classroom-based workshop led by USA Swimming certified coach and founder of Winning Swimming, Carolanne Caron, attendees will learn:

  • How to identify what’s behind your fear of swimming
  • Coping techniques to move past the fear
  • How to make your mind work for you instead of against you

PLUS, attendees have the option of signing up for a private, 1-on-1 lesson with Coach Caron or a semi-private (2 people) lesson. These lessons are 30 minutes.

Yoga for Athletes

Join elite runner and yoga instructor Amanda Nurse for this all-levels yoga class geared towards increasing an athletes’ strength, flexibility, balance, agility and endurance through basic postures and breathing techniques. Whether this is your first yoga class or you’re a seasoned yogi, this class will promise to leave you feeling restored and empowered to tackle your next training run or competition.

Assembling an Effective Fueling Program: Tips for Sports Nutrition On-the-Run from Nancy Clark

With hit or miss meals, eating on the run, and workouts that interfere with standard meal times, many athletes struggle with eating the proverbial “well balanced diet.” This workshop will focus on how to eat to reach your athletic goals. Presented by expert sports nutritionist Nancy Clark, attendees will learn thow organize their eating to give their bodies what it needs, despite a busy lifestyle. The information will help you get more out of your workouts. And as you know… you can only compete at your best if you can train at at your best and you can only train at your best, if, on a daily basis, you fuel at your best. SwimRun: Everything You Need to Know about the Newest Multisport Craze

Ready for your next multisport endurance challenge? SwimRun is the fastest growing endurance sport today and may be it! Attend this free information session presented by IGNITE SwimRun race series owner and race director, Jay Peluso and accomplished SwimRun and XTERRA athlete Marcus Barton and learn how the race works, what it takes to compete (or complete), the equipment you’ll need, how to choose the perfect partner and more.

Preparing for your Best Boston Marathon

A “must attend” for anyone preparing to run in the 2018 Boston Marathon, this information session presented by Ian Nurse, 9x Boston Marathoner, BAA member and chiropractor for the the John Hancock Invited Elite Runners of the Boston Marathon, will give you the info you need to have a successful Boston Marathon race experience an in depth course break down, race week logistics, proper carbo-loading and more.

Marathon Physical Therapy Fitness & Wellness & Studio

The Marathon Physical Therapy Fitness and Wellness Studio returns to RACE-MANIA featuring a half day of programming designed to help you avoid injury or figure out what that nagging pain or strain may mean. The day begins with a Dynamic Warm-up Class (infused with yoga) and is follow by opportunities for you to sign up for Video Run Gait Analysis, a Functional Movement Screen or a Pain/Injury Consultation. The Wellness Studio concludes with the class, Functional Cross Training for Endurance Athletes. Heart Health for Endurance Athletes: Facts, Fallacies & Performance Measures

The athletes’ heart is unique because of it’s ability to adapt to training and the environment. This session led by Dr. Brian Bilchik and Kristian Bakken of the Lown Cardiovacular Center will dive into the subject of the health of your heart. Numerous articles have been published over the last few years about the potential damage to the heart overtraining can cause. Attend this session to learn the facts and fallacies of how much is too much training. This session will also include a discussion of performance testing with demonstration of VO2 max testing and how it can be used to measure and improve performance.

Building Strength to be Ready for Your Next Endurance Event 

You’ve most likely heard it, but haven’t done anything about it… strength training can make all the difference when it comes to preparing your body for the rigors of training for a long distance endurance event. Attend this 60 minute workshop led by Darryl Elliott PT and Brenna Priest of Elliott Physical Therapy to learn how you can strengthen your core, butt and hips to help prevent injury and improve results in your next endurance event.

Targeting and Training for a Cycling Event

If you’re new to competitive cycling or are looking for some advice on how to train for a long distance cycling event or prepare for an entire summer of events, attend this session led by ex-professional cyclist and head coach at Cycle-Smart, Adam Myerson. This clinic we’ll focus on how to plan your training for the season, and how training for the dynamic nature of cycling is different than other endurance sports.
